Why are gyroplanes made of aluminium?
Aluminium alloys are widely used in helicopter construction, but also in aircraft design, drone manufacturing and the aerospace industry due to their outstanding properties. They offer an ideal combination of low density and high strength, which reduces the overall weight of the aircraft and therefore increases energy efficiency and flight range. Aluminium alloys are also extremely resistant to corrosion, which extends the service life of aircraft components and reduces maintenance costs. The various aluminium alloys, examples of which are listed in the following table, enable very specific material properties. Depending on their composition, the alloys exhibit specific hardness, toughness and resistance to extreme temperatures and mechanical stresses.
