Machining mechanics are involved in the planning, production and machining of components that are used in almost all areas of life - from screws to high-tech components for cars, water turbines and aeroplanes. They operate and control state-of-the-art computer-controlled machines and equipment and produce a wide variety of workpieces and assemblies from different metals or plastics.

Prerequisites
- Secondary school certificate
- Interest in technical processes and procedures
- Enjoy working with technology
Duration of training
- 3½ years
Training content
- Handling technical documents
- Manual and mechanical processing of metals
- Cutting, forming, joining
- Basics of control technology
- Operating and programming CNC-controlled machines
- Occupational safety and environmental protection
- Maintenance and servicing of machines and systems
Prospects
- After a few years on the job, progression to supervisory specialist or foreman
- Qualification as an industrial foreman or state-certified technician
- A training position with interesting and varied tasks
- Lively team spirit, flat hierarchies and short decision-making processes
- Enough freedom to take on responsibility and actively contribute your own skills
