Your project data: We get your components into shape with this information

In rail vehicle construction, no two projects are the same. We have therefore specialised in the manufacture of customised components. The production of optimised components requires knowledge of the following data about your project:

Intended use

Depending on their intended use, your CNC precision parts must fulfil certain requirements. For example, should they be particularly resilient? Is a certain elasticity required? How should the parts react to temperature changes? These and many other properties can be realised with our modern CNC machining centres. We would be happy to advise you personally on the optimum properties of your CNC small parts.

Design data

Our employees manufacture high-quality components based on your design data. From simple to highly complex shapes, (almost) anything is possible thanks to state-of-the-art processes. Our specialists in small CNC production are always available to help you solve or optimise problems.

Material

The choice of the right material has a major influence on the performance of the finished CNC precision parts. Depending on the application, some materials are more and others less suitable. Choose from a wide range of different metals and non-metals to find the right material for you. Are you unsure which material is best suited to your project? Just ask, we will be happy to advise you.

Our "one-piece" wagon construction parts will help you make progress with your project

Milling is one of the most widely used processes in the field of industrial metalworking. This is not surprising, as modern CNC milling machines can be used to produce extremely precise components economically.
Railcar and freight wagon manufacturers often require both very small and very large components. Our versatile machinery enables the precise production of universal sizes. We can even mill components up to a size of 6,000 mm and a weight of 20 tonnes for you from a single piece. Our "one-piece" components are stable and resilient, making them ideal for wagon and rail vehicle construction.

How CNC small parts production with Laro NC technology works

Depending on how far along you are in your project planning, we can provide you with the appropriate services. As your system supplier and partner, we support you in all process steps. This is how a project works for us:

Consultancy

Laro NC Beratung
Right from the start, we bring our wide-ranging expertise to your project. Specialists from various specialist areas work with you to find the optimum solution for your requirements. Our contact partners are available to answer your questions throughout the entire process.

Feasibility study

Laro NC Machbarkeitsanalyse2
We save time, material and order costs by offering to check the feasibility of your order in advance. This virtual process simulates the production of your components and visualises potential challenges in advance. If necessary, we then develop an optimised alternative to the original concept.

Machining

Milling sophisticated moulds in individual and series production is our core competence. Your CNC precision parts are machined using automatic CNC milling machines. Our modern and wide-ranging machine park has the right machine for every job.

Finish / Quality control

On request, we can then take care of the surface treatment of the finished components directly. Finally, our qualified employees carry out a final inspection. This ensures that all parts meet the customer's exact requirements.

The right material for your CNC precision parts

You can choose from a total of seven different materials for the production of your CNC precision parts. All materials differ significantly in their properties, making them suitable for certain applications.

Steel/stainless steel

Steel is relatively easy to machine despite its high resistance, hardness and toughness. Steel components are often used in mechanical engineering and the construction industry, among others, due to their high strength.

Aluminium

If you have your components CNC milled from aluminium, you benefit above all from the low weight of this metal. Aluminium is used, for example, in electronics, engine and gearbox construction, aerospace and the construction industry.

Titanium

The special thing about titanium is its high strength and relatively low density. In combination with its high corrosion resistance, it is a popular material for shipbuilding, outdoor equipment, aerospace, racing and construction parts of all kinds.

Invar

Iron-nickel alloys with a very high nickel content are known as Invar or Inconel. Due to its specific properties, it is often used for products that have to guarantee a high degree of length stability, even with temperature fluctuations. Examples include tanks for liquid gas ships, laser housings, RTM tools and astronomical instruments.

CFRP

Carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP) are characterised by high rigidity and low density. They are used, for example, in the manufacture of bicycle frames, aerospace and pressurised gas containers.

GRP

Glass fibre reinforced plastics (GRP), also known as fibreglass, are inexpensive and at the same time of very high quality. Their high elongation at break and elastic energy absorption make them the ideal material for the manufacture of leaf springs, small moulded parts, pipes and industrial doors, for example.

Plastics

Due to their versatility and low cost, plastics are an important part of practically all branches of industry. They are particularly easy to machine and are therefore characterised by both low material and production costs.

DIN 27200: Special standards apply for rail vehicle construction companies

Zug Einfahrt iStock C aapsky.jpg
Rail transport is regarded as reliable, safe and inexpensive. Trains are still often the means of choice for both travelling and transporting goods. However, few people realise the high demands placed on the manufacture of all types of rail vehicles. Every single wagon component must fulfil strict specifications in order to be allowed on the rails in Germany.

The specifications for railcar, passenger and freight wagon manufacturers are regulated in a total of 6 different DIN standards. These describe the German standards for the condition of railway vehicles. These standards are intended to ensure maximum operational safety. Numerous technical specifications for safety-relevant components ensure high demands on the quality of all components.

The following standards must be observed when building railway vehicles in Germany:
  • DIN 27200 clarifies important terms and sets out the principles for the application of the relevant standards. This provides an overview and a standardised framework for the standards group.
  • DIN 27201 deals with procedures for the maintenance of railway vehicles. This includes, among other things, tests and proof of maintenance, but also specifications for welding, as described in DIN 27201-6.
  • DIN 27202 describes all standards for the vehicle body and special equipment. For example, it regulates the requirements for vehicle gangways, railings and load containers.
  • DIN 27203 deals specifically with the passenger compartment. Entrance doors, movable steps, emergency entry and exit windows, kitchen facilities and many other components must fulfil strict standards in order to be approved for passenger transport.
  • DIN 27204 deals with one of the most important areas of every rail vehicle: the running gear. DIN 27204 specifies high safety standards for the steel, elastomer and air suspension, as well as for many other components.
  • Finally, DIN 27205 lists specifications for the brakes. A reliable brake is essential for every rail vehicle. This standard therefore describes in detail the requirements for the various brake types and their general functionality.
There are also DIN VDE 0119-206 and DIN VDE 0119-207, which list numerous other standards for railcar, passenger and freight car manufacturers in Germany, especially in the field of electrical engineering.

The numerous regulations for rail vehicle construction in Germany make the railway a particularly safe means of transport. However, it can be a challenge for railway vehicle manufacturers to comply with all standards in the context of cost-effective production.

At Laro NC-Technik, we specialise in the dimensionally accurate and standard-compliant production of individual components. Our optimised processes enable the cost-effective production of even small batch sizes. You benefit from this especially in rail vehicle construction, where often only a few parts of a certain type are required. These must be all the more precise and resistant. We mill both large and small components from the material of your choice and guarantee you the highest quality standards.
