How is a giant aluminium sculpture created without a mould? Laro NC was commissioned to produce an art object for a public project in Erlangen.
The official inauguration was a great aha moment: a three metre high sculpture by the artist Studio Julius von Bismarck now stands in front of the gymnastics and sports climbing hall in Erlangen.
We were commissioned by Laro NC to produce it. Sculptures made of aluminium are not part of our everyday business. The realisation of this work therefore required particularly close cooperation with the artist's studio, a great deal of intuition and - as with every machining project - precise planning. The aluminium sculpture was not made from a single piece. Instead, in consultation with Studio Julius von Bismarck (Berlin), we milled many complex components that were later joined together to form a whole.
But even the complete production from a single block of aluminium would have been no problem with the help of our Dinomax machining centre. Now that we have seen the sculpture in full size, we are very impressed by the result of our collaboration. What does the artwork evoke in you? What do you think it represents?
