The challenge when manufacturing tools or moulds for CFRP / GFRP? Quite clearly: the material.
Because it has to be extremely wear-resistant: This mould insert in the video is used in the ✈️ aerospace industry. The production of an RTM mould insert made from ✨AMPCO 25 is one of Laro NC's more unusual projects.
Why 🤔? It involves a production method for ⚙️ a tool insert made from an extremely strong bronze alloy.
The special feature is the extreme robustness of the material. Tools or moulds for the production of components made of CFRP / GFRP are mainly produced for 🚘automotive manufacturing or the aerospace industry.
Due to the continuous further development of the material GRP / CFRP and its applications, components can be found in almost every everyday object, such as bicycles, sports boats, motorbikes, sports equipment (e.g. tennis and golf clubs) and much more.
The carbon fibre properties make the production of the tool complicated. At Laro NC, we are 🦾experts in the production of so-called RTM tools ("resin transfer moulding process"). In this process, a blank (3D prefrom) made of fibres is inserted into a closed mould (tool) and then infiltrated with a liquid resin system under pressure. The curing of the resin results in a strong, lightweight and structurally solid component.
